To make children enthusiastic about the railway, that is the mission of the book and accompanying locomotive, entirely in the style of Tommie and Tess. Locomotive 9902 from Railexperts has been transformed into De Tommie and Tess Express. The locomotive runs throughout the Netherlands and can be admired in the Railway Museum in March 2024 during the On Traxs event, where the model train version will also be presented.

The hidden treasure of Hoef and Haag,
treasure map and gold coins

Commissioned by BPD | Bouwfonds Area Development
and area developer AM

illustrations and design children's book, treasure map and gold coins
2022

In 2017, a pot containing almost 500 medieval gold and silver coins was found during excavation work in the new village of Hoef en Haag (municipality of Vijfheerenlanden). The coin discovery is included in the national collection and can be seen at the Stedelijk Museum Vianen and the National Museum of Antiquities. The coin discovery now also gains visibility in the form of a children's book.

The book tells the history of Hoef and Haag and its surroundings using 10 coins from the coin hoard. Main character Mia Muntje takes the children on exciting and comical adventures and introduces them to the history of their village in a playful way. The book also contains a treasure map with which students can look for coins in the playgrounds in Hoef and Haag.

Amsterdamse beestenboel
Amsterdam beast of a 'buy one, give one principle'

The Amsterdam Beestenboel children's book is a richly illustrated children's book (6-9 years) about wild animals in Amsterdam. Through the 'buy one, give one principle', the initiators, writer Liedewij Loorbach, illustrator Eva van Aalst and Studio Pino (design), gave Amsterdam residents the opportunity to donate a book to children who have less chance of coming into contact with books and nature. The creators wanted to encourage children to spend more time outdoors and to read more.

Nominated for the Omarmprijs 2017 and the Jan van Luxembourgprijs

The book contains short informative stories about all kinds of animals that you can see in Amsterdam. Very common animals such as the worm, the pigeon and the rat. And very special animals such as the spoonbill, the crayfish and the grass snake. It is also explained how a cycle works and how all life is dependent on each other. In addition, it contains maps of all major parks in Amsterdam, from Noorderpark to Vondelpark to Gaasperpark. This way, children (and their caregivers) can see exactly where you have to lie on your stomach in the grass to see the horse biter (which is a very large dragonfly).
