EVA VAN AALST
Born in Helmond and now based in Amsterdam, Eva van Aalst has been drawing ever since she could hold a pencil — even if her first “stick hands” in kindergarten sparked a few giggles. That didn’t stop her. With a head full of ideas and a love for color, she was soon winning art contests with her bold imagination.
As a child, Eva dreamed of becoming a chair designer, but while studying at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, she realized her imagination was far too big to fit into furniture. It was during her drawing and painting classes that she discovered her true passion: illustration.
From her studio in the vibrant Volkshotel in Amsterdam, Eva creates playful, colorful digital illustrations bursting with humor, imagination, and delightfully quirky characters. The more stories she can weave into a single image, the better!
Eva made her illustration debut in 2017 with Dikke Vik en Vieze Lies worden vrienden by Sunna Borghuis — winner of the Hotze de Roos Prize. Since then, she’s illustrated three more books in the series, her own seek-and-find book Kosmo’s Space Journey, and numerous other projects including Amsterdam Animal Madness and The Train Journey of Tommie and Tess — complete with a illustrated locomotive and model train.
When she’s not illustrating, Eva shares her passion for creativity by teaching drawing classes for children, where imagination takes the lead. With dice, aliens, and plenty of laughter, she shows kids that drawing should always be about fun and freedom.
Eva’s work is instantly recognizable for its vibrant colors, mischievous characters, and the pure joy that shines through every illustration.
